“I want to live in a society where people are intoxicated with the joy of making things”
--W.M.S. Coperthwaite
At Wild Earth Stewardship Center, we are dedicated to building with low impact on the environment in a way that creates vibrant community and inherently connects rather than separates us from nature. We build using a variety of natural building materials such as bamboo, cob, adobe, wattle and daub, and earthen finishes. We are committed to constructing all of our building projects by hand together with volunteers and interns, group project sponsors, instructors and specialists, and local community members.
Our onsite buildings at the Center will serve as a place where we share hands-on learning opportunities with visitors. Our structures enable us to test out designs and techniques to serve as models for our community installation projects. Through our offsite natural building community installation projects, we seek to create opportunities for communities, workshop attendees, and volunteers to learn natural building techniques, while at the same time creating solutions for much needed infrastructure improvements. Together we can create new community spaces such as schools, health centers, nurseries for community gardens, composting toilets, and community centers.
